| Never knew Vernon, but knew his uncle Earl Kindig a little. Earl and his brother (Vernon's father) were early Charolais breeders in Virginia, under the name Kinmont Farm. Kinmont had Charolais cattle until about ten years ago. I think the farm was leased to another Charolais guy, Walt Winkler, some time ago, but I don't know if the cattle went to Walt. Walt has pretty good cattle. Anyway, I met Earl maybe Spring 2009 at the Virginia Beef Expo for a couple minutes. Kindigs were sort of famous in the mid 70s for a homozygous polled Charolais bull they bought named ACR Alfalfa John 075. I think the bull had some good about him. He sired a few champions, a few high sellers, and was still showing up in the pedigrees of some decent cattle back in the 80s and 90s. A maternal grandson, Mr.Kinmont 114, was the record high selling bull at the Virginia Bull Test in the early 80s, and I think the record still stands. Something like $15,000 for 1/4 interest to essentially commercial oriented breeders (back in the day when horned probably part Chianinas were very popular elsewhere). http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dailyprogress/obituary.aspx?n=james-earl-kindig&pid=146719507&fhid=6162 Or as I like to put it, in haiku form: I din't know Vernon But knew Earl just a little He had some white cows. Kent, that's a good first try, but remember 5-7-5 How about this: J Vernon Kindig Lawrenceville, Virginia Did anyone know him? That one's tricky because you don't know if virginia is 3 syllables or 4, but keep trying, you'll get the hang of it. TD, wondering what MS would wear if I took him out for sushi and a poetry reading. | |

| I knew Vernon, not for very long but I had the opportunity to visit with him a bit on the North Carolina Angus Tour to Iowa and Nebraska. He was often a ringman at North Carolina Angus sales. I know very little about his cattle but a few pedigrees that he showed me were linebred Emulous. I knew him more in passing than anything else. | |
